"Progress in measurements at high pressures & temperatures at UCLA:
Applications to deep Earth thermoelasticity, phase stability and
 core/mantle reactions"
(abstract below)

==================================

 ABSTRACT

       The ability to interpret geophysical observations of the deep Earth
requires measurements of the properties of materials at high pressures
and temperatures. I will show recent progress in addressing some of
the measurement issues in this technically challenging feat, including
development of a new system for temperature measurement, and new
methods for pressure calibration in the diamond anvil cell. These
developments are then applied to three measurements relevant to the
deep Earth: thermal expansion of NaCl as it undergoes the B1/B2 phase
transformation; phase stability of iron-rich silicate at lower mantle
conditions; and finally an exploratory study of electrochemical
reactions at high pressures.
