The new Earth Section Weekly Seminar series begins next week.
Please join your Earth Section colleagues for the first of this series of
talks aimed at a broad Geoscience audience:
Monday October 1, 3:15 (refreshments at 3:00)
Hubbs Hall 4500
Professor Anne Sheehan, University of Colorado Boulder
(currently at SIO as a Green Scholar in IGPP)
Seeing Beneath Mt. Everest: Probing a Breeding Ground of Destructive
Earthquakes
As indicated in an earlier email from Cathy Constable, the topic of the
series this Fall is Tectonics & Climate.
Dr. Sheehan's work will provide insights into some of the processes
associated with mountain building. Some subsequent speakers will discuss
rates of uplift and ways that we know about past epidsodes of tectonic
change that likely affected climate. Throughout the term, a number of
speakers will focus on what/how we know about the history of climate
change over the course of Earth history.
